VOV.VN - Although Typhoon Tapah will not directly pound Vietnam, the low-pressure area to be weakened from it is expected to move westward toward the country, causing a spell of heavy rain in the northern provinces on September 9-10.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, heavy rain will probably lash provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, and Lai Chau in the Northern region. The Red River Delta provinces will also see significant rain, though not as intense as in the mountainous areas.
Notably, the northern mountainous and midland localities may experience intense downpours, with precipitation possibly exceeding 100 mm in just 3 hours. This raises a high risk of flashfloods and landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying and urban areas.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on September 7 issued a directive urging northern provinces to prepare response measures for heavy rain, landslides, and flashfloods caused by the remnants of Tapah.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that at 5 a.m. on September 8, Tapah was nearing the coast of Guangdong province, China, with the strongest winds near its centre gusting between 89 - 117kmh.
Tapah is moving in a north-northwest direction at 20–25 kmh and expected to slam into Guangdong province on September 8 before weakening into a tropical depression and then a low-pressure area.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged central coastal provinces and cities to closely track Typhoon Nongfa, forecast to make landfall on August 30 evening, in order to proactively carry out response measures.
VOV.VN - Typhoon Kajiki that slammed into central Vietnam on August 25 has left 7 dead, 1 missing, and 34 injured, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
