VOV.VN - A number of Vietnamese localities are racing against time to implement mass evacuation plans to ensure residents safety in danger areas before typhoon Yagi blasts the mainland on September 7 afternoon.
More than 48,000 people have been evacuated from floating fishing cages, aquaculture watchtowers, and vulnerable houses to safe locations, according to the Department of Dyke Management and Flood and Storm Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The northern port city of Hai Phong is one of the localities to be significantly affected by typhoon Yagi. The local government has decided to relocate more than 7,000 households, involving tens of thousands of people, from deteriorating old apartment buildings, fishing cages, landslide and flood-prone areas, and dormitories to safe shelters.
Quang Ninh province, another localities to be heavily pounded by Yagi, has moved thousands of residents, including workers, from fishing cages at sea, mining sites and low-lying areas. It has also called in 100% of ships and boats to return to storm shelters.
To ensure safety for residents, Thai Binh province has evacuated more than 18,600 people from 7,700 households living in vulnerable houses. Additionally, more than 2,900 workers at aquaculture watchtowers along rivers and coastal areas have been required to move inland to avoid the typhoon.
Other localities are also rushing to evacuate people from vulnerable areas to safe places before the storm makes landfall.
So far, all localities from Quang Ninh to Nghe An and Quang Binh have issued a ban on maritime activities.
