Vietnamese rescue team awarded First-Class "Hero of Venezuela" Medal

VOV.VN - A ceremony was held on the morning of July 6 (local time) to present the First-Class "Hero of Venezuela" Medal to the Vietnamese rescue and relief team and Second-Class medals to its members.

Acting under the authorization of the Venezuelan government, Lieutenant Colonel Raúl Serrano Chacón of the Presidential Guard Command, who serves as coordinator of the Vietnamese rescue and relief mission, presided over the ceremony.

The "Hero of Venezuela" Medal is a prestigious distinction conferred by the Venezuelan government in recognition of the courage, dedication and heroism demonstrated by the Vietnamese rescue team, whose members braved danger and overcame numerous challenges to provide search-and-rescue assistance and humanitarian relief to people affected by the earthquake.

The Vietnamese team has now entered its sixth day of field operations, more than 10 days after the disaster struck. Despite immense pressure from severely contaminated earthquake debris, the team has remained resolute and maintained a high level of determination. Working in multiple units and racing against time, its members have recovered the bodies of 57 victims while helping relocate and return numerous personal belongings to local residents.

In addition to search-and-rescue operations, the team has worked proactively with local counterparts to visit and encourage around 500 families who lost their homes and are facing particularly difficult circumstances. It has also delivered emergency supplies to the disaster-hit communities, including more than 360 kilograms of canned meat, 100 cartons of milk, nearly 50 cartons of instant noodles, and large quantities of blankets and protective clothing.

The Vietnamese team's timely presence, strong sense of responsibility, and practical contributions, both material and moral, have helped local people  through an extremely difficult period, thereby contributing to deepening the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Venezuela.

Earlier, on July 3, Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, through Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My, sent a letter of appreciation to Party General Secretary and State President To Lam  and presented him with the "Hero of Venezuela" Order.
