VOV.VN - Vietnam’s rescue and relief team began their humanitarian mission in Venezuela on June 29 (local time), following their arrival to assist the South American country in responding to the devastating aftermath of recent twin earthquakes.
The aircraft carrying the Vietnamese delegation landed at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía on June 29 before the team traveled to the capital, Caracas, and then headed approximately 40km to the disaster zone to immediately deploy personnel, equipment and rescue resources.
Senior members of the Vietnamese rescue delegation, together with representatives of Venezuelan authorities, conducted an on-site assessment in La Guaira State, one of the areas hardest hit by the recent twin earthquakes. Based on the field survey, both sides agreed on deployment plans for personnel, vehicles and specialised equipment to support search-and-rescue operations in the coming days.
Colonel Pham Hung Duong, deputy director of the Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and head of the ministry's delegation, said the Vietnamese team would work closely with Venezuelan rescue forces and international emergency response teams to search for missing persons, provide medical assistance, support post-earthquake recovery efforts and carry out other tasks requested by the Venezuelan authorities in accordance with the team's expertise and capabilities.
According to Colonel Duong, the mission reflects not only Vietnam’s commitment to international humanitarian assistance but also its spirit of solidarity with the Venezuelan people during this difficult time. He expressed hope that the team's efforts would help reduce the disaster's impact, improve the effectiveness of rescue operations and support affected communities in returning to normal life as soon as possible.
Later the same day, Major General Gustavo González López, Minister of Defence of Venezuela, visited the Vietnamese rescue team at their operational base.
During the meeting, the Menezuelan minister expressed appreciation for the professionalism, dedication and rapid deployment demonstrated by the Vietnamese personnel upon their arrival. He described Vietnam's timely assistance as a vivid example of the solidarity, friendship and international responsibility shared between the two countries.
The Vietnamese mission commander thanked the Venezuelan ministry for its support and affirmed that personnel from the Vietnam People’s Army and the People’s Public Security Force would continue working closely with local authorities, overcome operational challenges and make every effort to fulfill their mission in helping Venezuela respond to the disaster and support affected communities.
Following the devastating earthquakes that caused severe losses of life and property in Venezuela, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on June 25 sent a message of condolence to Acting President Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez, the Government and people of Venezuela.
The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam has decided to deploy an 82-member military humanitarian and disaster relief team to Venezuela to support search and rescue operations and post-earthquake recovery efforts following the devastating earthquakes that struck the South American country on June 24.
