Whales spotted in Co To island of Quang Ninh province

VOV.VN - A herd of whales has been sighted on Co To island of northeastern Quang Ninh province swimming and hunting for food, as seen in a video clip shot by a local resident.

According to Vuong Ngoc Thuy, a 37-year-old resident of Co To island, his 35-second video clip was recorded at around 15:00 p.m. on September 22.

The whales, each about the same size at about 20m long, were seen swimming and hunting for food.

Thuy’s fishing boat was about 200 metres from the area where whales were spotted, and the herd appeared for about one hour before diving back into the sea.

Earlier, local people had sighted two whales in the Duoi Chuot area of Co To island.

Some fishermen also said that for nearly two months a herd of four to five whales had often appeared in the Ha Mai and Dau Trau areas of Co To island. They were found swimming about 700 to 800 metres from the shore.

It’s said that the climate condition and marine environment of Co To island is fresh, meaning that recently rare dolphins, whales, and sea turtles have all appeared in the area.
