VOV.VN - Thousands of Vietnamese youth across the country are to hold candle-lighting ceremonies on the evening of July 26 to pay tribute to fallen heroes, marking the 78th War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
The ceremony will be solemnly held at the National Truong Son Martyrs’ Cemetery in Quang Tri province, where more than 10,000 martyrs are laid to rest. The event will be organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province.
Located in what was once the “fiery coordinates” of Vietnam’s resistance war against American imperialism, this sacred ground bears testament to the indomitable spirit and ultimate sacrifices made for the country’s freedom and reunification.
The ceremony carries profound symbolic meaning, reminding younger generations of the price paid for today’s peace and independence, and upholding the Vietnam’s moral tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source”.
Simultaneously, across all martyrs’ cemeteries and memorial sites nationwide, thousands of tribute candles will be lit by youth organisations, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for national liberation.
Throughout July dubbed the Month of Gratitude, youth unions launch numerous activities to honour war heroes and their families. These include visiting and presenting gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, families of martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, and revolution contributors; renovating houses of social policy beneficiaries, and restoring martyrs’ cemeteries and memorial monuments.
The candle-lighting ceremony, along with related activities held nationwide, serves not only as a solemn tribute but also as a powerful expression of the Vietnamese youth’s deep sense of responsibility and gratitude toward past generations. These meaningful efforts help instill patriotism, preserve revolutionary traditions, and nurture national pride among younger generations, ensuring that the sacrifices of martyrs and heroes are forever honoured and remembered.
