Asian Dancesport Festival 2026 attracts competitors from 32 countries and territories

VOV.VN - The WDSF Asian Dancesport Festival 2026 opened in Ho Chi Minh City on July 9, with thousands of competitors from 32 countries and territories taking part.

In his opening speech , Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong highlighted the event as a significant milestone in the development and international integration of Vietnam's dancesport.

Hoang Dao Cuong said it drew some of Asia's top dancers and marks a new stage in the professional development of dancesport in Vietnam. He noted that the sport has evolved beyond entertainment into a modern competitive discipline that demands determination, discipline, tactical thinking, artistic expression and the ambition to excel.

Ho Chi Minh City's hosting of the championships at the festival, with the support of KTA King the Art and relevant authorities, underscores Vietnam's ambition to become a regional hub for culture, sports and entertainment, Hoang added.

He expressed hope that the event will help strengthen support mechanisms for athletes, coaches and clubs while attracting continued support from businesses, organisations and international partners to advance the long-term development of dancesport in Vietnam.

This year's dancesport festival attracted a strong field featuring national champions, Asian champions and couples ranked among the world's best. Competitors also have an opportunity to earn international ranking points toward future events organised by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).

According to Tran Chien Thang, President of the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation and Head of the organising committee, the event honours sporting excellence and artistic values while strengthening friendship, solidarity and exchanges among participating countries and territories.

Vietnam's athletes underwent months of training and international competition, funded through social contributions, to sharpen their skills and gain experience ahead of the championships. The host team won three gold, five silver and five bronze medals on the opening day, making a strong start to the event.
