Truong Thi Kim Tuyen of Vietnam took bronze at the Asian Taekwondo Championship on May 17 in Da Nang city.
Tuyen, seeded No 4, lost 0-2 to reigning SEA Games champion Panip Wongpattanakit of Thailand in the semi-finals match of the women's 49kg category. No 1 seed Wongpattanakit later took the top podium.
Wongpattanakit also eliminated Tuyen in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Games before she went on to take the Olympic title in 2021.
In the women's 62kg, Vietnamese Pham Ngoc Cham finished third after losing 0-2 to Feruza Sadikova of Uzbekistan in the semi-finals.
The last weight categories of the championship will be held on May 18.
The 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championship is gathering the highest number of participants in the tournament’s history, President of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation Truong Ngoc De said at its May 16 opening ceremony held in central city of Da Nang.
VOV.VN - Female Vietnamese athletes, including Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai, won gold on May 15 in the women’s team poomsae (performance) event held at the Asian Taekwondo Championship in Da Nang.
