VOV.VN - U17 Vietnam held Japan’s Matsuyama University to a 1-1 draw on the afternoon of November 11 (local time), in their second friendly match during a training camp in Japan as part of their preparations for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers.
With the aim of testing squad depth and refining tactical schemes, head coach Cristiano Roland made several changes to the starting lineup compared to the previous match.
The rotation, coupled with facing an older and more experienced opponent, saw the Vietnamese side start somewhat cautiously. However, after the opening 15 minutes, U17 Vietnam gradually settled, pressed more effectively, and improved their ball circulation.
In the first half, they created two clear scoring opportunities, though efforts from Sy Bach and Hiep Dai Viet were denied by the Matsuyama University goalkeeper.
After the break, adjustments in personnel and approach helped U17 Vietnam lift their tempo. In the 52nd minute, following a composed escape from pressure by Duy Khang, a well-weighted through ball released Manh Quan to finish clinically and open the scoring. However, only minutes later, Matsuyama University earned a penalty and successfully converted to level the match at 1-1.
For the remainder of the game, coach Roland continued to rotate players to provide game-time exposure and assess performance across the squad. The friendly concluded in a balanced 1-1 draw, offering valuable insights for the coaching staff.
According to the schedule, U17 Vietnam will play their final match of the training camp against U18 Ehime on November 13 before returning home to complete their final phase of preparation for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers.
