Vietnam beat Guam 3-0 in 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifier

Vietnam were awarded a penalty after a Guam defender’s handball. Le Phat successfully deceived the goalkeeper to open the scoring for coach Hua Hien Vinh’s team in the 24th minute.

In the last minutes of the first half, Cong Phuong who struck a brace for Vietnam in their 5-0 win over Bhutan on September 23 two days ago extended Vietnam’s lead with a direct free kick just outside the box.

Besides the two goals, the hosts did not make much of an impact. The home team focused their play heavily on the right wing, where Le Dinh Long Vu was positioned, but young Vietnamese players did not coordinate well and made several inaccurate passes.

Goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai had a comfortable match, facing no challenges from opponents. Despite taking control of the match, Vietnam still displayed a lackluster style of play.

Vietnam played with one more player in the second half after the Guam goalkeeper received a red card. However, it wasn’t until stoppage time that the host team scored again. Nguyen Hoang Khanh headed the ball in close range, sealing the 3-0 victory for Vietnam.

With the 3-0 victory, Vietnam retained their top position with six points, having scored 8 goals.

In the next match, Vietnam will take on Bangladesh at Lach Tray Stadium at 7p.m. on September 27.
