Vietnam drop one place in latest FIFA rankings

Despite the national team earning an extra 3.46 points thanks to their stellar 2-0 victory over Afghanistan in a recent friendly, they still dropped down one spot compared to the previous rankings.

This can be attributed to the good performances of both Palestine and Kyrgyzstan in qualifiers for the 2023 Asian Cup, with these two teams rising to 94th and 95th in the world, respectively.

Currently, the Golden Dragons sit on 1,219 points, eight behind Belarus in 96th place.

Furthermore, this marks Vietnam's longest run in the top 100 of the FIFA rankings to date, although the national team are well short of the record high of 84th position achieved back in September, 1998.

In terms of Southeast Asia, Vietnam continues to be the leading team, followed by Thailand and the Philippines.

In relation to Asia as a whole, the nation ranks in 17th position, with Iran in first place, followed by Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and Qatar.

The three countries leading the way at the top of the latest FIFA rankings are Brazil, Belgium, and Argentina.
