Da Nang showcases authentic culture, wellness tourism in Japan

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s central Da Nang city held a tourism promotion event in Tokyo on June 18, highlighting authentic cultural, wellness and nature-based experiences while seeking to strengthen connections with the Japanese market and expand tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The event attracted more than 100 participants, including representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, tourism associations, travel agencies, airlines, business partners and Japanese media organisations.

The programme, organised with support of Vietnam Airlines, was part of efforts to enhance air connectivity between Da Nang and major Japanese cities, thereby fostering tourism, trade and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Japan.

Japan has long been one of Da Nang’s most important international visitor markets. In 2025, the city welcomed more than 291,000 Japanese visitors, accounting for 3.8% of total international arrivals and ranking eighth among its top ten international source markets.

During the first five months of 2026, Japanese arrivals reached nearly 164,317, representing 3.65% of total international visitors and reaffirming the importance of the Japanese market to the city’s tourism industry.

In addition, direct flights connecting Da Nang with Tokyo (Narita), Osaka and Nagoya have played a vital role in facilitating tourism, business and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Japan. These air links are expected to continue supporting destination promotion efforts in the coming years.

As Japanese travelers increasingly seek wellness retreats, cultural immersion and longer-stay experiences, Da Nang is positioning itself as a destination that offers deeper connections with local culture, nature and communities.

Tourism authorities introduced a range of experiences designed to showcase the cultural and natural heritage of central Vietnam, encouraging visitors to move beyond traditional sightseeing and engage more closely with local life.

Among the highlights are visits to traditional craft villages such as Thanh Ha, Kim Bong, Tra Que, Cam Thanh, Triem Tay, Tam Thanh and Non Nuoc, where travelers can meet artisans and learn about cultural traditions preserved for generations.

The city also promoted wellness and healing tourism experiences at major destinations including Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), My Son Sanctuary, Tam Thai Pagoda and Ban Co Peak, featuring activities such as meditation, tea appreciation, herbal therapies, trekking and nature retreats.

Eco-tourism and community-based tourism products were also highlighted, particularly those linked to the forest and marine ecosystems of Son Tra Peninsula, Cu Lao Cham, Tay Giang, Hoa Bac, Phu Ninh Lake and Dong Giang Heaven Gate. These experiences are designed to meet growing demand among international travelers for sustainable tourism and authentic encounters with nature.

Da Nang also showcased its strengths as a year-round events destination, hosting a variety of cultural, sports and entertainment festivals throughout the year. Furthermore, the city introduced culinary tourism products featuring the rich gastronomic traditions of central Vietnam, including opportunities for visitors to learn traditional cooking techniques and interact with local chefs and artisans.

According to the Da Nang tourism industry, the promotion event reflects the city’s broader strategy of shifting from conventional sightseeing tours toward more immersive and emotionally engaging travel experiences.

Through the Tokyo programme, the city also aims to expand cooperation with Japanese partners in high-end resort tourism, wellness travel, golf tourism, MICE tourism, educational travel and cultural tourism.
