VOV.VN - Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, has surpassed Bali (Indonesia) to rank as the second-best island in the Asia-Pacific region in Travel+Leisure’s Luxury Awards 2026.
The Travel+Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific are announced annually to honor outstanding destinations, resorts and high-end travel experiences across the Asia-Pacific region, one of the world’s fastest-growing tourism markets. The evaluation criteria include service quality, resort and entertainment offerings, and overall travel experiences.
Phu Quoc climbed to second place on the list of the best islands in Asia-Pacific, rising one spot from last year and surpassing renowned destinations such as Bali (Indonesia), Palawan (the Philippines), Langkawi (Malaysia) and Sumba (Indonesia).
Ranking just behind Koh Samui (Thailand), Phu Quoc is also the only Vietnamese destination included in this year’s list.
The ranking underscores Phu Quoc’s growing appeal among international travelers and marks another milestone for Vietnam’s leading island destination, supported by preparations for APEC 2027 and a rapidly expanding tourism, resort and entertainment ecosystem, along with improving transport infrastructure.
In 2025, Condé Nast Traveler, one of the world’s leading travel publications, named Phu Quoc the most beautiful island in Asia and the third most beautiful in the world.
In March 2026, Phu Quoc climbed from fifth to second place in the Best Islands in Asia category of the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2026.
In the first five months of this year, An Giang province welcomed more than 13.3 million visitors, up 12.1% year on year.
Phu Quoc alone received approximately 4.77 million visitors, up 34.2%, achieving 56.1% of its annual target. International arrivals to Phu Quoc reached about 1.17 million, marking a 51% year-on-year increase and accounting for the majority of An Giang province’s total international visitors.
VOV.VN - The English-language edition of Thai newspaper Khaosod on May 9 published an article describing Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island as “one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing beach destinations.”
