VOV.VN - United Airlines officially relaunched its route connecting the United States and Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of October 27, eight years after suspending operations, with its first flight (UA153) to Los Angeles departing at 6:30 a.m. local time.
The flight usomg Boeing B787‑9 Dreamliner was welcomed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport with a traditional water salute.
The route is planned to operate daily using the Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner, with a stopover in Hong Kong, connecting Ho Chi Minh City to both Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Patrick Quayle, United Airlines Senior Vice President of Network and Global Alliances, said the airline is expanding unique and new routes to enhance passenger travel opportunities. He also noted that visitors to Ho Chi Minh City can explore landmarks such as the Saigon Opera House, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and local culinary offerings.
United Airlines was the first US carrier to operate direct flights to Vietnam, launching its inaugural service to Ho Chi Minh City in December 2004. The route was suspended in 2017. Its relaunch after an eight-year hiatus makes United Airlines the only US airline currently flying to Ho Chi Minh City.
The resumption comes as Vietnam and the United States recently announced a joint statement on the reciprocal, Fair, and balanced trade framework, viewed as a significant step forward that opens opportunities for comprehensive cooperation across multiple fields, particularly aviation and tourism, thereby boosting trade and travel between the two countries.
