VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has launched flights to restart the Hanoi-Busan air route, thereby becoming the first foreign airline to operate flights to Gimhae International Airport in Busan since the Republic of Korea (RoK) imposed restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Flight VN426 departing from Hanoi landed safely in Busan at 7:59 a.m. (local time), carrying 148 passengers onboard, while flight VN427 departed from Busan at 11:57 a.m., transporting a total of 175 passengers.
Being the first international carrier to operate a flight to Gimhae International Airport in Busan in the post-COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam Airlines has affirmed its role as a long-standing airline that has a strong position within the Korean market.
At present, Vietnam Airlines operates the Hanoi-Busan route with a frequency of three flights per week, with flights every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
As of July, the carrier will reopen the Ho Chi Minh-Busan air route with four flights per week, while simultaneously planning to operate daily flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang to Seoul.
In a bid to meet the travel demand of passengers in the post-pandemic period, Vietnam Airlines has put the modern wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft into service on these routes.
Tickets for air routes between the nation and the RoK are now widely available and on sale on Vietnam Airlines' website, mobile apps, ticketing offices, and official agents.
All airline members of Vietnam Airlines Group – Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASO – will offer more than 7.1 million seats on both domestic and international routes during the peak summer travel season.
Authorities of the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Chungbuk province, about 105 km south of Seoul capital, have said they will promote the resumption of international flights at Cheongju International Airport, including direct ones to Vietnam.
