Foreign investment, international arrivals in Vietnam reach multi-year highs

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded multi-year highs in both disbursed foreign direct investment (FDI) and international tourist arrivals during the eight-month period of 2026, official data showed on September 3.

Foreign visitor arrivals hit 15.9 million between January and August, up 14.4% year-on-year, marking the highest eight-month figure in years, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).

In August alone, foreign arrivals were estimated at 1.99 million, up 19.7% from July and 18.4% year-on-year.

The GSO credited the growth to stable safety and security, favorable visa policies, active promotional campaigns, diverse tourism products, and competitive costs.

During the five-day National Day holiday (August 29 - September 2), key destinations posted strong revenue gains, with Ho Chi Minh City earning VND 4,900 billion (around US$196 million), Hanoi surpassing VND 3,000 billion (US$120 million), and Da Nang generating VND 3,326 billion (US$133 million), according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

In investment, total registered FDI, including newly registered capital, adjusted capital, and share purchases, totaled US$40.63 billion as of August 31, up 55.4% year-on-year.

Disbursed FDI stood at US$17.25 billion during the eight-month period, a 12% increase year-on-year and the highest figure recorded for the period in five years.

Overseas investment by Vietnamese enterprises also expanded, with total capital (newly registered and adjusted) coming to US$2.62 billion, a 4.7-fold increase year-on-year across 113 new projects and 29 capital adjustments. Among 35 recipient countries and territories, Laos led the list, attracting US$667.5 million, or 25.5% of Vietnam's total outward investment.
