VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City -Catalonia Investment Promotion Conference 2026 was held on July 29 by the Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) in coordination with Catalonia Trade & Investment.
Those in attendance at the event included Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Loc Ha, ITPC Director Pham Quang Nhat, President of the Government of Catalonia Salvador Illa i Roca, and Ambassador of Spain to Vietnam Carmen Cano de Lasala, alongside business delegates from both sides.
In his address, Vice Chairman Nguyen Loc Ha emphasized that the presence of Catalonia's leadership and business delegation demonstrate a shared determination to elevate economic, trade, and investment ties between Vietnam and Spain, particularly between Ho Chi Minh City and Catalonia.
Both regions share key similarities as economic locomotives, industrial hubs, and innovation centers. Although Ho Chi Minh City and Barcelona signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2009, practical implementation has remained limited.
Therefore, the visit by President Salvador Illa i Roca and this conference provide an opportunity for both sides to reboot ties, update cooperation areas in line with new development needs, and move toward practical joint projects and programs.
Featuring two thematic sessions, "Cooperation in Strategic Technology and Innovation Ecosystems" and "Smart Logistics, Supply Chain Connectivity, and Global Trade Infrastructure", the forum enabled enterprises to explore opportunities for cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, smart ports, green energy, and advanced manufacturing.

Ho Chi Minh City is stepping up efforts to build a safer and more transparent e-commerce ecosystem as authorities accelerate implementation of the new E-commerce Law, which aims to strengthen consumer protection, enhance platform accountability and support the sustainable growth of Vietnam's digital economy.
