VOV.VN - The northern province of Hung Yen continues to capture major interest from Japanese businesses, with 190 Japanese-invested projects currently operating effectively in the province, including Thang Long II Industrial Park developed by Sumitomo Corporation of Japan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Hung Yen provincial administration jointly organised the Japan-Hung Yen Connection Programme on June 3, drawing hundreds of Japanese and local businesses.
At the event, Secretary of the Hung Yen provincial Party Committee Pham Quang Ngoc said Japan is one of the province's most trusted and important partners across a wide range of fields.
Hung Yen signed cooperation agreements with Kanagawa Prefecture and Nikaho City in 2015. The province and Japanese partners have also signed numerous cooperation agreements covering investment and economic cooperation, culture, education, sports and people-to-people exchanges.
The province has actively promoted cooperation with Japan through a range of initiatives, including a conference with Japanese businesses in 2023 marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations and a series of investment promotion events in Japan. These efforts have helped attract a number of large-scale foreign investment projects, particularly in industry, energy and high technology.
Japan is currently the largest foreign investor in Hung Yen, with 190 projects and nearly US$6.5 billion in registered capital.
Among them, Thang Long II Industrial Park, whose infrastructure was developed by Sumitomo Corporation, has attracted 98 Japanese investment projects with total registered capital of approximately US$3.6 billion, helping form a strong industrial ecosystem of Japanese enterprises in the province.
According to Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, Hung Yen enjoys a strategic location between Hanoi and Hai Phong Port, giving it significant advantages in attracting investment and developing supply chains.
He noted that many Japanese companies are continuing to expand their operations in the province and are also showing growing interest in the energy sector. To further capitalise on its location, Hung Yen should strengthen infrastructure connectivity linking Hanoi, Hai Phong Port and the province's coastal economic zone, he emphasized.
At the program, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan highlighted the strong, effective and substantive development of Vietnam-Japan ties after more than five decades of development, underpinned by the highest level of political trust in their history and firmly anchored in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.
Hung Yen has demonstrated strong appeal to Japanese investors, with 190 Japanese-invested projects operating effectively in the province, including Thang Long II Industrial Park, he stressed.
The industrial park is considered one of the most successful industrial park investment projects undertaken by Japanese businesses in Vietnam. Japanese investors have not only contributed significantly to local budget revenues and job creation but have also supported economic restructuring and helped improve management standards and technological capacity in the province.
According to Le Anh Tuan, Hung Yen stands out as a leading example of efforts to translate the economic cooperation goals of Vietnam and Japan into concrete results.
During the event, Hung Yen leaders held a dialogue with Japanese businesses. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Chairman of the Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee, and heads of provincial departments responded to a wide range of questions concerning labour recruitment, administrative procedures, industrial park infrastructure, investment policies and the business environment.
Nguyen Manh Quyen said he will direct relevant agencies to review the issues raised by businesses and investors and work directly with them to provide clarifications, remove bottlenecks and create the most favourable conditions possible for investors and enterprises.
The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade), in coordination with the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan and its Osaka branch, the ASEAN-Japan Centre, the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and the Osaka Industrial Innovation Centre, will organise a trade and investment delegation to Japan.
A delegation from Japan’s Okayama City, led by Mayor Masao Omori, paid a working visit to the southern province of Tay Ninh on April 15, aiming to enhance exchanges and promote bilateral cooperation between the two localities.
