VOV.VN - Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) on December 9 co-hosted the 9th trade remedies cooperation conference and the 10th FTA trade remedies implementation committee meeting to boost cooperation in the field of trade remedies.
The two countries have maintained annual exchanges to discuss bilateral trade-remedy issues, based on the Vietnam–RoK Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect in 2015, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on expanded cooperation between their trade-remedy authorities signed in 2018.
At the meetings held in the central city of Da Nang, both sides shared updates on changes in laws, policies and organizational structures related to trade remedies, while exchanging views on each country’s import regulations. Technical matters concerning investigations, including cross-border subsidies and procedures for initiating probes, were also discussed.
Currently, both the RoK and Vietnam are each applying four trade-remedy measures on goods imported from the other. The RoK side, in particular, called on Vietnam to exercise caution in its application of anti-dumping measures on four steel products from the RoK.
A MOTIE official said that through the discussions, the two sides agreed to continue operating their trade-remedy systems in a prudent, transparent and fair manner, while pledging to enhance bilateral cooperation in dealing with emerging issues related to trade remedies, including acts of anti-dumping duty circumvention.
A Vietnam – Laos trade connection and product promotion fair will take place in Vientiane from November 20–23, under the direction of the two countries’ ministries of national defence.
VOV.VN -Minister Counsellor Pham Quang Huy, deputy head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to Geneva chaired a recent working session on the Global Trade Alert (GTA) tool with the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with Andrey Eydlin, Director of the Swiss Capacities for Trade Policies (C4TP) program at the St. Gallen Foundation.
