VOV.VN - Leaders of southern Tay Ninh province have called for stronger connections with Indian businesses and local governments to expand cooperation in trade, industry, energy, logistics, tourism and human resource development.
The call was made during a meeting on June 4 between provincial leaders and a delegation led by Vipra Pandey, consul general of India in Ho Chi Minh City. The two sides discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges between Tay Ninh and Indian partners.
At the meeting, Nguyen Hong Thanh, vice chairman of the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee, praised the role of the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in facilitating and promoting cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Indian partners.
According to the official, although Tay Ninh has yet to establish formal cooperation agreements or memoranda of understanding with Indian states or localities, the province has maintained positive relations with India's diplomatic missions in Vietnam.
Over the years, Tay Ninh has welcomed several visits by Indian ambassadors and consuls general seeking to explore the province's investment and business environment. Provincial leaders have also engaged with Indian businesses and partners to identify areas of mutual interest and potential cooperation.
In recent years, the province has focused on attracting investment in manufacturing and processing industries, clean energy, high-tech agriculture, logistics, trade, services and tourism.
Tay Ninh is implementing its 2021–2030 Development Plan, with a vision to 2050, aimed at becoming one of the most dynamic growth centres in Vietnam's southeastern region.
Currently, the province hosts 14 Indian-invested projects with total registered capital of approximately US$108 million. These projects are concentrated in industrial manufacturing and processing sectors, including garment production, rice bran oil manufacturing, sugar production, seed drying and processing, agricultural processing and other manufacturing activities.
Beyond investment cooperation, Tay Ninh has acknowledged and highly valued India's support through development assistance programs. Several community infrastructure projects funded by the Government of India have helped improve education, transportation and living conditions for local residents.
Notably, in 2026, the Indian Embassy is supporting the construction of the Kenh Trai Lon Bac Bridge in Nhon Ninh Commune through funding from the Government of India's Quick Impact Projects (QIP) programme. The project is expected to bring tangible benefits to local communities and stands as a testament to the friendship and effective cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, Tay Ninh leaders requested continued support from the Indian Consulate General in introducing and connecting Indian businesses, industry associations and investors interested in exploring cooperation and investment opportunities in the province.
Tay Ninh is prioritising investment in high-tech industries, manufacturing and processing, industrial park and cluster infrastructure, logistics, warehousing, distribution centers and inland ports, high-tech agriculture, agricultural processing, clean and renewable energy, high-quality trade, services and tourism, education, healthcare, workforce development and innovation.
The province also expressed its desire for continued Indian support in promoting scholarship programs, short-term training courses, technical cooperation initiatives and human resource development programs.
For his part, Consul General Pandey described Tay Ninh as one of the Vietnamese localities attracting a relatively high level of Indian investment compared with many other provinces and cities across the country.
He noted that existing cooperation achievements provide a solid foundation for both sides to further expand collaboration in areas of mutual strength.
Pandey also called for stronger tourism cooperation, including connecting travel operators to develop tour packages and bring more Indian visitors to Tay Ninh's tourist attractions.
A delegation from Japan’s Okayama City, led by Mayor Masao Omori, paid a working visit to the southern province of Tay Ninh on April 15, aiming to enhance exchanges and promote bilateral cooperation between the two localities.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed the southern province of Tay Ninh to leverage its role as a nexus of global connectivity through its four border gates, a regional transit and a linkage for industrial development.
