Buddha’s sacred sarira returned to India after historic Vietnam pilgrimage

VOV.VN - After four days of enshrinement and public veneration, a solemn farewell ceremony for the sacred sarira of the Buddha was held on the afternoon of June 2 at Quan The Am Pagoda in Ngu Hanh Son district, central Da Nang city.

The ceremony attracts the participation of a large number of Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, and devotees.

Addressing the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, standing vice president of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council, prays for world peace and calls on everyone to unite in building a brighter future together. He also wishes for a prosperous and peaceful Vietnam.

According to the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Da Nang, the presence of the Buddha’s relic in various provinces and cities across Vietnam over the past month is a major religious event and a rare spiritual blessing.

Venerable Pelwatte Seewalee Thero, general secretary of Maha Bodhi Society of India, shows sincere thanks to both the Vietnamese Government and people during the one-month journey of Buddha’s sacred Sarira across the country.

The Sarira of Lord Buddha, a sacred treasure of India, is received by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha from India and ceremoniously enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda as part of the 2025 UN Day of Vesak celebration taking place from May 6 to 8.

Thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists, and visitors have the chance to pay homage to the Buddha’s relic at revered religious sites across Vietnam from May 2 to June 2.

At 4 p.m. June 2, the procession escorting the Buddha’s sarira arrives at Da Nang International Airport to fly back to India.
