Cambodian PM Hun Manet warmly welcomed in Hanoi on Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung hosted a welcoming ceremony in Hanoi on June 8 for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet who arrived there on the same day for a visit and participation in the ASEAN Future Forum 2026.

Amid ceremonial military music, PM Hung personally welcomed his Cambodian counterpart upon arrival. He expressed confidence that PM Hun Manet’s visit and participation in the ASEAN Future Forum would further strengthen solidarity and neighbourly friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, while also sending a strong message of the two countries’ shared commitment to working with other ASEAN member states to realise the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

After receiving flowers from children in Hanoi, the two leaders walked along the red carpet toward the podium of honour. Under the national flags of the two countries, the national anthems of Cambodia and Vietnam were played during the flag salute ceremony attended by senior officials from both sides.

In a solemn atmosphere, the two Prime Ministers reviewed the guard of honour of the Vietnam People’s Army and introduced members of their high-level delegations attending the ceremony.

Shortly afterwards, the two Prime Ministers led their respective delegations into official talks.

Vietnam and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. In recent years, the two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and cooperation through both bilateral mechanisms and multilateral forums.

Party-to-party cooperation continues to play a guiding role in bilateral relations, while defence and security cooperation remains a key pillar. Both sides reaffirm the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use one country’s territory to undermine the security of the other.

In 2019, Vietnam and Cambodia signed two legal documents recognising the completion of approximately 84% of land border demarcation and marker planting. Negotiations are continuing regarding the remaining 16%.

Trade, investment, and tourism cooperation have continued to grow steadily. Bilateral trade turnover reached US$11.33 billion in 2025. In the first four months of 2026, two-way trade totaled nearly US$5 billion, up 9.6% year on year.

Vietnam is currently Cambodia’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, and Cambodia’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.

To date, Vietnam has 229 valid investment projects in Cambodia. The two countries are also actively coordinating efforts to achieve a bilateral trade target of US$20 billion in the near future.

In tourism, Vietnam recorded 1.22 million visitor arrivals to Cambodia in 2025, while nearly 700,000 Cambodian tourists visited Vietnam during the same period.

Cooperation in education and training, transportation, culture, healthcare, and telecommunications has also continued to expand. Exchanges between mass organisations and people-to-people groups have been maintained regularly.

Vietnam and Cambodia have also coordinated closely at regional and international forums, particularly at the United Nations, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN-led mechanisms, as well as Mekong subregional cooperation frameworks, contributing to enhancing the standing and influence of both countries regionally and globally.
