VOV.VN - Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) General Secretary To Lam and Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) President Hun Sen on February 6 attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship School, as part of the former’s state visit to Cambodia.
Following welcoming remarks and a project briefing by the Governor of Phnom Penh, both CPV general Secretary To Lam and CPP President Hun Sen performed the official groundbreaking rites for the school.
The Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship School is being built within the campus of a primary and secondary school, established in 1973. The site once served as a logistics base for Vietnamese volunteer troops after Cambodia’s liberation on January 7, 1979, and was later converted into a school.
Closely associated with the history of Vietnamese volunteer forces, the school symbolises the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia and reflects the shared spirit of “connecting youth, connecting generations and connecting leaders.”
At present, the Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship School comprises 11 buildings with 54 classrooms, employs 135 education staff and serves around 6,000 students from kindergarten to upper secondary level.
With generous support from the Vietnamese Government and people, the school will be upgraded and expanded with key infrastructure facilities to improve education quality and meet growing demand.
The project includes two two-storey multipurpose administrative buildings, eight three-storey primary and secondary school blocks with a total of 200 classrooms, two canteens and other auxiliary facilities.
The Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship School is expected to be completed within one year from the groundbreaking date.
