PM Hung welcomes Thai counterpart Anutin during Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung hosted a welcoming ceremony at the Government Headquarters in Hanoi on June 8 for Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam and attending the third ASEAN Future Forum.

The visit, made at the invitation of the Vietnamese Prime Minister, takes place as the Vietnam–Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to deepen across multiple fields. It also holds special significance as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, just 10 days after General Secretary and State President To Lam’s official visit to Thailand.

In a formal atmosphere, PM Hung welcomed PM Anutin at the vehicle entrance before the Thai leader received flowers from children representing Hanoi. The two leaders then walked along the red carpet to the ceremonial platform as the national anthems of Thailand and Vietnam were played under the flags of both countries.

PM Hung subsequently invited PM Anutin to review the guard of honour of the Vietnam People’s Army. The two leaders introduced members of their high-level delegations before holding talks.

During the talks, both sides discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner within ASEAN. Bilateral trade reached US$22 billion in 2025, up 9% year on year, including US$8.8 billion in Vietnamese exports and US$13.3 billion in imports from Thailand.

In the first four months of 2026, two-way trade totaled nearly US$8.6 billion, marking a 24% increase year on year. Vietnam’s major exports include phones, computers, electronics and components, machinery, transport vehicles, chemicals, steel, crude oil, textiles, fruits and seafood. Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly imports electronics, automobiles, household appliances, machinery, auto parts, plastic materials, metals and chemicals from Thailand.

Thailand currently has 797 valid investment projects in Vietnam with total registered capital of around US$15 billion, ranking eighth among 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam and second within ASEAN after Singapore. Thai investments are concentrated in manufacturing, energy, petrochemicals, real estate, wholesale and retail sectors.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has more than 20 valid investment projects in Thailand with total registered capital of approximately US$40 million, mainly in manufacturing, real estate and trade.

The two countries are also accelerating the implementation of the “Three Connections” Strategy, focusing on supply chain connectivity, business and locality-to-locality connectivity, and alignment of sustainable growth strategies.

Beyond economic cooperation, bilateral ties in defence-security, labour, tourism, culture, education-training and people-to-people exchanges have continued to record positive progress. The Vietnamese community in Thailand now exceeds 100,000 people and has been granted legal residential and working status by the Thai government.
