PM Le Minh Hung to attend ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit commemorating the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia dialogue relations and conduct bilateral activities in Kazan, Russia.

The trip slated for June 16 to 18 is being made at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a press communique from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ASEAN-Russia Summit takes place against the backdrop of three and a half decades of expanding cooperation between ASEAN and Russia. Over the years, the relationship has evolved from political dialogue into broader cooperation across trade, investment, energy, science and technology, education, disaster management and regional security issues.

In 2018, ASEAN and Russia elevated ties to a Strategic Partnership, providing a foundation for deeper and more substantive cooperation.

Recent years have seen stronger collaboration in economic development, digital transformation, innovation, energy security and sustainable development. ASEAN and Russia have also maintained regular consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The summit in Kazan is regarded as the flagship event of the 35th anniversary year and will provide an opportunity for leaders to review achievements in ASEAN-Russia cooperation while identifying priorities and directions for future collaboration.

In preparation for the summit, ASEAN and Russian officials have held a series of senior-level meetings to assess the implementation of current cooperation plans and explore new frameworks suited to a rapidly evolving regional and global environment.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s participation underscores Vietnam’s commitment to ASEAN-Russia relations and its support for ASEAN’s central role in the evolving regional architecture.

The visit is also expected to provide opportunities for Vietnam and Russia to strengthen bilateral exchanges and further deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
