VOV.VN - Vietnam welcomes the recently concluded peace agreement between the United States and Iran and hopes it will pave the way for a comprehensive, durable agreement that brings lasting peace to the Iranian people.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam was speaking at a reception for newly appointed Iranian Ambassador Akbar Ghasemi Ali Abadi, who presented his credentials on July 6.
He congratulated him on his appointment and reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Iran.
The Vietnamese leader welcomed the recent positive developments between the United States and Iran, hoping that both sides would soon reach a long-term and sustainable agreement to completely end the conflict and secure lasting peace for the Iranian people.
Vietnam stands ready to contribute, within its capabilities, to supporting this objective, he told his guest.
Reiterating Vietnam's consistent policy of strengthening relations with Iran, the top leader proposed priorities for bilateral cooperation in the coming period, including enhancing political trust; giving greater priority to economic cooperation; making science and technology a new driver of bilateral relations; and expanding collaboration in culture, education and training, and tourism.
He also hoped that Ambassador Ali Abadi would serve as an effective bridge between the two peoples, helping to further strengthen people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding. He assured his guest that the Government of Vietnam and relevant ministries and agencies would support him throughout his tenure.
For his part, Ambassador Ali Abadi expressed the admiration of the Iranian leadership and people for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence as well as its growing role and standing both regionally and globally.
He stressed that the Iranian Government highly values its relationship with Vietnam and proposed further expanding bilateral cooperation across political, diplomatic, economic and defence fields.
Welcoming the ambassador's proposals, the Vietnamese leader requested the two countries' foreign ministries and diplomatic missions to work closely together to implement the cooperation priorities outlined by Vietnam alongside the ambassador's initiatives, with a view to further strengthening the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
