Party leader To Lam outlines directions for army’s General Department of Politics

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised the importance of political work, calling it the soul of the military during his visit to the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army on July 23.

Talking to the leaders and officers of the General Department of Politics, the Party chief affirmed the department’s crucial role as a strategic advisory body for political and Party affairs within the military.

He praised its achievements, saying that the motto "Wherever there are soldiers, there must be Party and political work" has become a core tradition and is considered the “soul” of the Vietnam People’s Army.

General Secretary To Lam directed the organisation to continue researching and giving advice to improve the Party’s leadership mechanism over the military, ensuring absolute and comprehensive leadership. He asked it to strengthen Party organisation and build a strong, capable, and reputable cadre system, adhering strictly to democratic principles in personnel work.

It’s imperative to promote political and ideological education, preparing the armed forces to face modern and high-tech warfare with resilience and confidence, he said.

The General Secretary stressed the importance of defending the Party’s ideological foundation within the military and combating wrongful and hostile viewpoints. He also underlined the need for close cooperation between the General Department of Politics, the General Staff, and other central agencies of the Vietnam People’s Army in strategic defence planning and in building a modern military.

He called on the entire armed forces to uphold unity, discipline, innovation, and determination to excellently fulfill all assigned missions, contributing to the protection of Vietnam’s independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Finally, the Party leader requested that the General Department of Politics consult with Central Military Commission to thoroughly prepare for the Party congresses at all levels, especially the 12th Party Congress of the Army for the 2025–2030 term in the lead up to the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026.

At the meeting, General Trinh Van Quyet, director of the General Department of Politics, reported on the outcomes of political and Party work during the first half of 2025 and outlined key tasks for the coming months. Highlights included the consistent implementation of political and ideological education; thorough dissemination of Party directives; and active promotion of the Party’s ideological foundation, major national events, and strategic reform policies.
