VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on July 14 offered incense and flowers in tribute to fallen heroes at the central martyrs’ cemetery in Lao Cai province, marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947–2026).
In a solemn ceremony, the Prime Minister and members of the delegation observed a minute of silence before offering incense and flowers in remembrance of the 192 martyrs laid to rest at the cemetery. They expressed profound gratitude and pledged to forever honour those who devoted and sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom and the people's well-being.
Lao Cai has a long-standing revolutionary tradition. During the country's wars of resistance, nearly 8,900 people from the province fought and laid down their lives on battlefields across the country, contributing to national independence, reunification and the defence of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Upholding the tradition of remembering those who sacrificed for the nation, the Party and State have consistently attached importance to policies for people who rendered meritorious service to the revolution, while improving the material and spiritual well-being of war invalids, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs and other contributors to the revolutionary cause.
These efforts reflect the nation’s enduring gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations and help foster patriotism, responsibility and dedication among younger generations.
The commemorative ceremony formed part of nationwide activities marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day, honouring those who sacrificed their lives for national liberation, nation-building and national defence.
The Lao Cai provincial martyrs' cemetery is the final resting place of 192 fallen heroes. Besides serving as a place where relatives and local people pay tribute to the deceased, it is also regarded as a ‘red address’ for educating younger generations about Vietnam’s revolutionary tradition, patriotism and the enduring spirit of gratitude to those who sacrificed for the nation.
