VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and President To Lam has affirmed that the Party, State, and people will never forget those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, while demanding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), DNA technology, and digital transformation to speed up the search for fallen soldiers' remains.
He made the directive during a visit on the afternoon of July 17 to pay tribute to martyrs and inspect search and repatriation efforts at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City. He was accompanied by Tran Luu Quang, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
The field inspection took place at a historic site associated with the heroic sacrifices of local soldiers and citizens during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Expressing deep emotion before the souls of liberation soldiers and urban commandos who have rested in the city's soil for 58 years, the leader emphasized that locating, recovering, and identifying martyrs is a sacred responsibility and a moral duty for every Vietnamese to uphold the national tradition of gratitude.
To optimize and fast-track this mission, the top leader tasked central ministries and agencies with refining policy frameworks, while pressing for the leverage of digital transformation, AI, DNA analysis, geophysics, and domestic and international archival records. Additionally, he requested expanding international cooperation to access wartime maps, records, photographs, and eyewitness accounts from countries involved in the war to aid identification efforts.
For frontline units, To Lam urged Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate closely with the Military Zone 7 Command, the City Military Command, and relevant localities to establish a shared database and expand operations to all sites of past fierce battles.
Endorsing the launch of a 500-day campaign to gather and identify martyrs' remains with greater determination, he asked agencies to analyze these practical experiences to build a standardized national model, aiming to return all fallen heroes to their families and hometowns.
Earlier, the delegation laid wreaths and offered incense at the monument of former General Secretary Tran Phu, the memorial site for martyrs who died in the 1968 Tet Offensive, the temporary housing facility for gathered remains, and the altars dedicated to heroes Le Thi Rieng and Tran Van Kieu.
