VOV.VN - Vietnam and Indonesia have signed a 2026-2030 Action Plan to implement their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, highlighting their commitment to expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
The action plan was signed by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in Jakarta on July 14 as part of the former’s working visit to Indonesia.
During the trip, the two ministers co-chaired the sixth meeting of the Vietnam–Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee, reviewing progress in bilateral cooperation and discussing priorities for strengthening ties in the coming years.
At the talks, Sugiono welcomed Trung’s visit and highlighted the committee’s role in promoting practical cooperation across multiple sectors.
Trung thanked Indonesia for its warm hospitality, congratulated the country on its development achievements, and expressed confidence that Indonesia would continue to prosper under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto while pursuing its Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the steady development of bilateral relations over more than 70 years of diplomatic ties, particularly since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Party General Secretary To Lam's visit to Indonesia in March 2025.
They noted that cooperation has continued to expand despite global political and economic uncertainties.
Economic cooperation is a key pillar of bilateral relations. Two-way trade reached US$17.2 billion in 2025, up 3.2% from the previous year, while trade during the first four months of 2026 exceeded US$6 billion, representing a 7% year-on-year increase. Both sides expressed confidence that bilateral trade could reach US$18 billion by 2028.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence and security, combating transnational crime, cybercrime and human trafficking, while expanding collaboration in air connectivity, agriculture, fisheries, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The newly signed Action Plan for 2026-2030 was described as an important milestone in implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during its next phase. It identifies priority areas for cooperation, including high technology, innovation, energy, cross-border payments and other emerging sectors with strong growth potential.
Both sides also agreed to make better use of existing cooperation mechanisms and to convene the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation at an early date to deepen economic connectivity.
Sugiono said Indonesian businesses are showing growing interest in expanding investment in Vietnam. He voiced Indonesia's welcome for Vietnamese companies seeking investment opportunities in the country.
For his part, Trung called for greater support for business cooperation, particularly in renewable energy, the semiconductor industry, the digital economy, electric vehicles and the halal industry.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the East Sea and the Middle East. They pledged to increase close coordination within multilateral frameworks and enhance ASEAN centrality.
Both sides agreed to work closely with ASEAN member states and China to accelerate negotiations on an effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) that is consistent with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
During his working trip, Trung also visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Indonesia, Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to ASEAN, and met Vietnamese officials working at the ASEAN Secretariat.
