VOV.VN - The State President has signed a decision to commute prison terms from death sentence to life imprisonment for convicted prisoners who have submitted petitions for clemency.
Under the decision signed on December 27, the beneficiaries are those who had committed particularly serious crimes.
The President’s commutation of the death penalty to life imprisonment for the convicted demonstrates the lenient and humane policy of the Vietnamese Party and State towards those who commit particularly serious crimes, giving them the chance to repent, reform and return to their family and community in future.
Earlier on August 30, the President also signed a similar decision, reducing prison terms from death penalty to life imprisonment for 11 convicted prisoners on the occasion of National Day (September 2).
