Hanoi sets out 100-year vision in new capital master plan

VOV.VN - Hanoi has officially unveiled its master plan with a 100-year vision at the city’s 2026 investment promotion conference, held on June 29 as the capital enters a new phase of development.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man delivered remarks at the event, which was organised by the Hanoi People's Committee at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

The event drew around 1,000-1,200 delegates, including 580-780 domestic and foreign investors and businesses.

It was Hanoi’s first large-scale investment promotion conference in years and the first to be held as the city enters a new stage of development, with political, legal and strategic foundations now in place under central resolutions, the 2026 Capital Law and the newly announced capital master plan.

The conference focused on the announcement of the 100-year capital master plan, assessments of Hanoi’s investment environment and socio-economic performance in 2025 and the first half of 2026, as well as development priorities for the next phase.

The master plan covers the entire administrative area of the capital, with a natural area of approximately 3,359.84 sq.km. The population is projected to reach 14-15 million by 2035 and 17-19 million by 2065. Its spatial development structure follows a “multi-layered, multi-level, multi-polar and multi-centre” model, with the Red River serving as the city’s main ecological and cultural landscape axis, comprising nine development poles, nine major centres and nine growth corridors.

In terms of growth targets, Hanoi aims for average annual GRDP growth of over 11% during 2026-2035, with GRDP set to hit around US$200 billion by 2035 and approximately US$640 billion by 2045. Under its 100-year vision, Hanoi aims to become a global, ranking among the world’s capitals with the highest quality of life and happiness.

The city also launched a 360-degree digital data management system for investment projects and investment offerings. Government officials, international organisations, economists and business representatives discussed measures to attract investment and cooperation opportunities in priority sectors including finance, urban infrastructure, education and innovation.

As part of the conference, Hanoi set up an exhibition area introducing the 100-year capital master plan, featuring planning models integrated with 3D mapping technology, videos and planning maps to visually present major development directions and the capital’s new spatial structure.

A separate announcement and exhibition event was also held at Hanoi Museum later the same day, providing residents and businesses with access to the master plan through exhibition displays and planning materials.

As part of the event, Hanoi introduced a public exhibition of the 100-year capital master plan featuring large-scale models, 3D mapping technology, videos and planning maps, offering a visual presentation of major development directions and the capital’s new spatial structure.
