VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Ministry of Public Security to urgently investigate the December 18 tragic fire at a coffee shop in Hanoi that killed 11 people.
Under a dispatch signed on December 19, the PM asked the Ministry of Public Security to strictly handle the offender according to the law to serve as a deterrent and prevent similar incidents.
The PM also directed relevant agencies to collaborate with the Hanoi People’s Committee to focus on addressing the aftermath. Furthermore, he instructed localities to enhance fire prevention and firefighting measures, especially during the upcoming New Year holidays.
The Hanoi Police Investigation Agency has prosecuted 51-year-old Cao Van Hung, a local resident, the suspect accused of setting fire to the coffee shop, leading to the tragedy.
The fire broke out at a coffee shop on Pham Van Dong Street in Bac Tu Liem District at around 11PM on December 18, killing 11 and injuring others.
The suspect reportedly had an altercation with the staff after drinking beer at the coffee shop. Following the dispute, he bought petrol, poured it on the first floor, where many motorbikes were parked, set it on fire, and fled the scene.
