VOV.VN - Border guards operating in the central province of Quang Nam said on May 30 that they successfully cracked down on a large drug trafficking ring from Laos, arresting a total of eight Laotian nationals in the process.
According to details given following the arrests, at 11:00 a.m. on May 26 the border guards stopped a suspicious vehicle as it was travelling through Nam Giang International Border Gate.
After searching their vehicle, which was registered in Laos, they subsequently found and seized a total of 198 kg of drugs, including 44 cakes of heroin and 181.75 kg of different kinds of drugs.
The case is currently under further investigation.
The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on May 27 to honour border guards for their exceptional achievements in combating drug-related crimes and smuggling.
