VOV.VN - Vietnam’s women’s futsal team secured a historic first gold medal after defeating Indonesia 5-0 in the final of the SEA Games 33 on the afternoon of December 18 in Thailand.
With no team having previously claimed the gold, both Vietnam and Indonesia were determined to make history.
Indonesia started strongly, employing a high-pressure, physical style that tested the Vietnamese side. In a tightly contested opening, Vietnam broke the deadlock in the fifth minute.
An Indonesian defender mishandled a clearance, allowing Thanh Ngan to strike with her left foot and put Vietnam ahead.
The early goal freed Vietnam to play fluidly, with crisp passing, while Indonesia struggled to organize their defense. This allowed Vietnam to extend their lead with three more goals from Thanh Ngan, Thuy Trang, and K’Thua, putting them 4-0 up midway through the first half. Vietnam created additional chances, but the half ended 4-0.
In the second half, Indonesia pressed higher and generated scoring opportunities, but Vietnam’s disciplined defense under coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang thwarted all attempts. When Indonesia resorted to a late power play, Nguyet Vi capitalized on an open goal to seal a 5-0 victory for Vietnam.
The win marks Vietnam women’s futsal team’s first-ever SEA Games gold, etching their names in the competition’s history.
