NA leader Tran Thanh Man pays tribute to Lao counterpart Xaysomphone Phomvihane

The delegation’s visit came after the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Government of Laos and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction announced on August 8 that Xaysomphone Phomvihane had passed away at the age of 70.

To honour his contributions and express profound sorrow over his passing, Laos is observing five days of national mourning, starting August 9. Vietnam also declared two-day national mourning in tribute to the Lao National Assembly leader, starting August 9.

Over nearly four decades of service in leadership positions at both local and central levels, Xaysomphone Phomvihane made significant contributions in finance, economic affairs, mass-front work, foreign affairs and legislation. Strengthening and developing relations with Vietnam remained a consistent hallmark of his career.
