CPV, Japan’s LDP look to enhance theoretical, policy exchanges

Prof. Dr. Thang welcomed the delegation and spoke highly of the growing cooperation between the two countries and their ruling parties, built on a high level of political trust.

He noted that Vietnam and Japan have established a new development vision for bilateral relations amid complex regional and global changes, reaffirming a comprehensive partnership that extends beyond trade. Japan currently stands as Vietnam's fourth-largest economic partner and third-largest investor.

In the current context, the two sides should further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World, while stepping up practical and effective cooperation in new fields, particularly strategic connectivity initiatives set by top leaders, Thang told his guest.

 Highlighting the visit as a new milestone in direct party-to-party cooperation, Prof. Dr. Thang proposed establishing an annual mechanism for theoretical dialogue and policy discussion between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the LDP. This mechanism will serve as a forum to share experience in party building, leadership, and resolving contemporary challenges to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

He also suggested bolstering cooperation between the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Central Theory Council, and the LDP, particularly its Policy Research Council, through regular, practical activities combining research with policy consultation, alongside increased exchanges of experts and research delegations.

For his part, Hagiuda Koichi praised the proposals for periodic dialogue mechanisms in areas of mutual interest such as economic security, defence, and energy. He pledged to conveying these recommendations to LDP leadership to establish an appropriate cooperation framework soon.

The LDP official expressed the party's desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in strategic and economic security domains, including artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor technology. In response, Prof. Dr. Thang highlighted that both nations can combine Vietnam’s resource potential with Japan’s advanced technologies to jointly create high-value products.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed shared contemporary challenges, such as population aging and workforce shortages.

Thang noted Vietnam’s interest in studying Japan’s sustainable development model and shared Vietnam's ongoing efforts in institutional reform and national governance enhancement under CPV leadership, transitioning strongly from "state management" to "development-enabling" governance with active public participation.
