VOV.VN - Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn hosted a state welcome ceremony for Party General Secretary and President To Lam in Canberra on August 11, marking the Vietnamese leader’s state visit to Australia from August 9-12 in a solemn atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect.
As the motorcade carrying the Vietnamese leader arrived at Government House, Governor-General Sam Mostyn warmly welcomed him at the forecourt. A 21-gun salute was fired in honour of the state visit.
Governor-General Sam Mostyn then invited Party General Secretary and President To Lam to the dais, where the Australian military band played Vietnam’s national anthem. The commander of the guard invited the Vietnamese leader to review the guard of honour and the Australian military band.
Following the inspection, Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Party General Secretary and President To Lam introduced the members of their respective delegations attending the welcome ceremony.
The two leaders then stood together on the dais as the military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and Australia in a solemn ceremony.
This is Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s first state visit to Australia in his current position, and the first visit by a top Vietnamese leader to Australia since the two countries upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The visit comes as Vietnam-Australia relations enter a new phase of development, with broad opportunities and significant potential for cooperation. It also provides an opportunity for the two countries’ leaders to further strengthen political trust, exchange views on major strategic directions and promote the effective implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Following the welcome ceremony, Party General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
During the visit, Party General Secretary and President To Lam and Australian leaders are also scheduled to witness the exchange of cooperation documents, meet the press, and hold meetings with parliamentary leaders, among other activities.
The high-level engagements are expected to provide fresh momentum for Vietnam-Australia relations to develop in an increasingly substantive, effective and in-depth manner, based on trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit.
The state visit is also an important step in implementing the foreign policy orientations adopted at the 14th National Party Congress, contributing to the goal of deepening, substantiating and increasing the effectiveness and sustainability of Vietnam’s relations with its Comprehensive Strategic Partners.
Through high-level contacts and exchanges, Vietnam and Australia have an opportunity to identify cooperation priorities for the new period while strengthening coordination on regional and international issues of shared concern.
Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s state visit therefore represents more than a high-level diplomatic engagement. It is also an important milestone in deepening the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and laying a stronger foundation for the two countries to expand cooperation and deliver tangible benefits to their peoples.
