Top leader To Lam attends 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia air links

Over 35 years of operation, Vietnam Airlines has conducted 35,000 flights and transported 7.5 million passengers between the two countries, attesting to a stable development market and growing demand for connectivity.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates 25 round-trip flights per week connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth using a wide-body fleet of Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft. In the first half of this year, the Vietnam-Australia aviation market reached over 809,000 passengers, up more than 11% year-on-year. Routes between the two nations maintained a high average seat load factor exceeding 83%, indicating positive ongoing market demand.

The growth of the aviation market has paralleled advancements in Vietnam-Australia bilateral relations, particularly after the two nations elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, making air connectivity increasingly vital for economic cooperation, tourism development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam emphasized that aviation and tourism hold special significance in international relations, serving as crucial bridges bringing citizens and businesses closer together. Each opened route contributes to enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation while promoting Vietnam's image globally.

Pham Hung Tam noted that over the past 35 years, the bilateral air network has steadily expanded alongside growing multi-faceted ties, meeting the travel, trade, educational, and tourism needs of both nations. Vietnam Airlines has played a central role in maintaining and expanding direct air links, projecting the image of a dynamic, friendly, and culturally rich Vietnam to Australian residents and visitors.

Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, stated that amidst deep international integration, aviation firmly establishes itself as strategic economic infrastructure. Consequently, Australia remains a priority market in the airline's development orientation.

Ngoc Hoa stressed that Vietnam Airlines will continue investing in its flight network, improving service quality, and broadening cooperation to expand Vietnam-Australia connectivity in this new development era.

After 35 years, the Vietnam-Australia flight routes continue to affirm their role as a key bridge between the two countries. Fulfilling its mandate as the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines will continue expanding connectivity and partnering with stakeholders to push bilateral cooperation forward in the coming period.
