VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau received Takebe Tsutomu, special advisor to the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance, in Hanoi on June 26 to exchange views on promoting cooperation in education, training, and human resource development between the two countries in the new phase.
During the meeting, Chau expressed his pleasure at meeting Takebe again and thanked the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance for its warm reception during the Vietnamese delegation’s visit to attend the 31st Future of Asia Conference in Japan earlier in June.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Takebe’s persistent and dedicated contributions over more than 30 years to Vietnam–Japan friendship and cooperation, particularly in people-to-people exchange, local cooperation, education, and human resource development, including the Vietnam–Japan University project.
As both countries expand cooperation into high-tech sectors, he urged Takebe to continue supporting enhanced cooperation in education and training, particularly in developing high-quality human resources in areas where Japan has strengths and Vietnam has growing demand, such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI).
He emphasised that the Vietnam–Japan University is a key symbol of bilateral educational cooperation in Vietnam. He also proposed that the Japanese side accelerate negotiations to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the project in 2026.
At the same time, he suggested completing necessary procedures to begin construction in the first quarter of 2027, while strengthening connections with Japanese enterprises to expand internship and employment opportunities for students, thereby improving training quality and ensuring sustainable workforce output.
Beyond education, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that Takebe would continue promoting cooperation between localities of the two countries, as well as economic, cultural, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
He also called for support in resolving remaining issues and creating more favourable conditions for Vietnamese citizens studying, living, and working in Japan.
Takebe, for his part, said that during his latest visit to Vietnam, he clearly observed the dynamism and determination of the new leadership apparatus and highly appreciated the strong reform efforts under the leadership of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.
He reaffirmed his commitment to further promoting Vietnam–Japan cooperation, particularly in human resource training, semiconductor ecosystem development, artificial intelligence, legal education reform, and support for the Vietnamese community in Japan.
He also pledged to work closely to resolve issues related to the Vietnam–Japan University project and to prepare cooperation programmes for the 2025–2026 period.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau invited Takebe and leaders of Hokkaido Prefecture to attend the second Vietnam–Japan local cooperation forum, scheduled to be held in Hue City in September 2026.
