Vietnamese press told to strengthen public trust, safeguard Party’s ideological foundation

Speaking at a meeting with 101 outstanding journalists and veteran media professionals in Hanoi on June 16 to mark the 101st anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925–2026), he highlighted the important role of the press in guiding public opinion, promoting national consensus and supporting the country’s development goals.

According to him, Vietnam’s press sector should continue to uphold its political commitment, improve professional standards and effectively communicate the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws to the public.

He emphasised that one of the press’s key responsibilities is to help strengthen public trust and safeguard the Party’s ideological foundation, while fostering greater understanding and social consensus around major policy decisions.

He also urged media organisations to actively counter false and misleading information, saying such efforts should be based on facts, persuasive arguments, professional credibility and responsible journalism rather than rhetoric alone.

The top leader stressed the importance of staying close to people's lives and reflecting realities on the ground. Journalists, he said, should identify challenges arising during policy implementation, highlight effective practices and contribute to addressing practical issues facing society.

A valuable journalistic work is measured not by its wording but by its accuracy, social responsibility and contribution to solving real-world problems, he said.

He also called on the press to accompany the country’s development process by accurately identifying issues, reflecting realities, analysing causes and proposing practical solutions.

Regarding anti-corruption efforts, the leader described the press as an important channel of public oversight. At the same time, he held that reporting should be conducted with professionalism, objectivity, humanity and full compliance with legal and ethical standards.

He further highlighted the need for comprehensive digital transformation in the media sector, underscoring that digital transformation involves not only adopting new technologies but also changing newsroom management, content production processes, distribution methods and audience engagement strategies.

While technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data can support journalism, he noted that they cannot replace journalists’ professional judgment, fact-checking capabilities, political awareness and social responsibility.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam also called on media organisations to develop modern, multi-platform newsrooms capable of producing content for diverse audiences while maintaining the credibility, depth and distinctive values of Vietnam’s revolutionary press.

Expressing confidence in the country’s journalism community, he said Vietnamese journalists would continue to serve as a pioneering force on the ideological and cultural front, acting as a bridge between the Party, the State and the people while contributing to national development in the years ahead.
