Party General Secretary, State President To Lam meets Governor of New South Wales

VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam met with Governor of New South Wales Margaret Beazley in Sydney at noon on August 10 (local time), during his state visit to Australia.

At the meeting, To Lam expressed his delight at visiting Sydney, the capital of New South Wales and Australia's largest economic and tourism center. He noted that bilateral relations are developing fruitfully, substantially, and effectively, particularly in fields that will determine each nation's competitiveness and prosperity in the coming decades.

On that basis, the Vietnamese top leader expressed confidence that cooperation between New South Wales and Vietnamese localities will continue to deepen on the foundation of strong political relations and enhanced people-to-people exchanges, facilitated by improved infrastructure and aviation connectivity.

Suggesting that Australia explore cultivating Vietnamese coffee, To Lam voiced his belief that the two sides will augment cooperation across all fields, including high-tech agriculture, biotechnology, agricultural processing, trade, and investment. He affirmed Vietnam's support for Australia's development and its desire to jointly work toward promoting relations between ASEAN and the Pacific region.

Governor Margaret Beazley warmly welcomed To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation. She highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese Australian community, noting that many have succeeded in various fields and hold key positions in the state. Beazley strongly agreed with To Lam's proposal to make science, technology, and innovation a new pillar of bilateral cooperation, alongside promoting high-quality human resource training, agricultural development, and other areas of mutual strength.

New South Wales is Australia's oldest state and played a foundational role in the formation of the Australian Commonwealth. With its capital Sydney serving as a globally iconic city, New South Wales consistently acts as the key engine driving Australia's socio-economic development.

Vietnam represents a key export market for goods and educational services for the state. Education and training stand out as a prominent pillar of cooperation, with New South Wales attracting a large number of Vietnamese students attending prestigious institutions such as the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). New South Wales officially signed a friendly cooperation agreement with Ho Chi Minh City in 2019.
