VOV.VN - A 3.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in Cao Duong commune of Phu Tho province on August 26, and people in the capital city of Hanoi, about 100km from the epicentre of the quake, also experienced shaking.
The earthquake hit Phu Tho at 17:46 at a depth of about 16 km, and caused no disaster risk, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences.
Cao Duong commune was formed by merging the entire natural area and population of three former communes - Thanh Son, Cao Duong, and Thanh Cao from former Luong Son district of former Hoa Binh province, now under Phu Tho province.
The commune covers a total area of 115.373 km² with a population of 36,783 people in 8,302 households. It borders Lien Son, Kim Anh, and An Nghia communes in Phu Tho, as well as My Duc commune in Hanoi, and is located over 100 km from Phu Tho’s provincial centre.
Although the quake jolted Phu Tho province, it was also lightly felt by people across several parts of Hanoi.
The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre said it was still monitoring the quake.
