VOV.VN - Traffic accidents across Vietnam continued to decline on February 18 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), extending the sharp drop recorded on the previous day, according to the Traffic Police Department.
Nationwide, 33 traffic accidents were reported, resulting in 22 deaths and 14 injuries, decreasing across all three indicators compared with the same day of the previous Lunar New Year.
Road accidents accounted for 32 cases, leaving 21 people dead and 14 injured, down by 18 accidents, 10 fatalities and 24 injuries compared with the corresponding day of the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.
One railway accident occurred in Quang Tri province, causing one death, an increase of one case and one fatality year-on-year. No waterway accidents were reported.
Authorities nationwide inspected and handled 5,668 traffic violations during the day. Police temporarily seized 84 cars, 2,758 motorcycles and 95 other vehicles; revoked 273 driving licences and deducted penalty points from 1,490 drivers.
More than 2,800 cases involved drink-driving violations, while five drivers tested positive for narcotics.
In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, traffic conditions remained stable, with no prolonged congestion or serious accidents reported.
Traffic volume on key national highways and expressways leading to southern and Mekong Delta provinces declined, and traffic police were deployed to regulate and ensure smooth circulation.
