VOV.VN - Three students from the Vietnam National Academy of Music have captured Gold medals at the 13th Asia Arts Festival in Singapore, highlighting the growing presence of Vietnam's young vocal talents on the international stage.
Held from July 6 to 12, the annual festival is one of Asia’s leading performing arts competitions, attracting contestants from more than 20 countries and territories across a wide range of disciplines. Classical vocal performance is among its most competitive categories.
This year, Vietnamese students Luu Huong Thao, Dang Cong Danh and Anh Thu all claimed Gold medals in their respective divisions, marking one of Vietnam's strongest performances at the festival.
Luu Huong Thao won over the jury with Je veux vivre, the celebrated aria from Charles Gounod's opera Romeo and Juliet. The piece demands exceptional coloratura technique, combining agile vocal passages with expressive interpretation.
Dang Cong Danh earned his Gold medal with It Ain't Necessarily So from George Gershwin's jazz opera Porgy and Bess. His performance stood out for its blend of vocal technique, rhythmic precision and confident stage presence.
According to Cong Danh, one of the competition's most memorable moments came after the awards ceremony when the festival director unexpectedly sang the opening line of his performance as a gesture of congratulations. Several international audience members also approached him afterward to express their appreciation for his interpretation.
Seventeen-year-old Anh Thu also secured a Gold medal in the solo-with-piano category, completing an impressive sweep for the Vietnamese delegation and underscoring the strength of the academy's emerging generation of classical singers.
Lecturers at the Vietnam National Academy of Music said the students' achievements reflected not only individual dedication but also the academy's growing capacity to train performers capable of competing internationally.
The three Gold medals, they said, demonstrate the increasing maturity of Vietnam's young classical singers and contribute to raising the international profile of Vietnamese vocal arts.
As more young Vietnamese performers gain recognition on prestigious international stages, educators hope such achievements will inspire the next generation to pursue professional music while strengthening Vietnam's cultural presence abroad.
