VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung left Hanoi on June 16 for Kazan, Russia, to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit commemorating 35 years of relations and conduct bilateral activities at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The June 16-18 trip takes place as ASEAN and Russia mark 35 years of dialogue and cooperation, while the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia continues to advance across multiple sectors. It also marks Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s first visit to Russia since assuming his current position.
The commemorative summit will provide an opportunity for leaders to comprehensively review the strategic partnership between ASEAN and Russia, assess achievements made over the past decades, and identify priorities for future cooperation.
Discussions are expected to focus on areas with significant potential for collaboration, including trade, science and technology, digital transformation, energy security, education, and tourism.
ASEAN and Russian leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding, building trust, and promoting cooperation based on international law. The summit is expected to adopt a number of important documents that will help shape the future direction of ASEAN-Russia relations.
PM Hung’s participation underscores Vietnam’s proactive, active, and responsible role in regional cooperation mechanisms. Through its engagement, Vietnam continues to contribute to ASEAN consensus-building efforts and to the promotion of substantive cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.
In addition to the multilateral agenda, the visit carries significant importance for bilateral relations between Vietnam and Russia. As high-level exchanges between the two countries continue to be maintained, the trip is expected to further strengthen and deepen the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The visit also reaffirms Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of external relations, as well as its commitment to proactive and comprehensive international integration.
