VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has been awarded the 2026 Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize in recognition of his contributions to promoting peace, strengthening international cooperation and fostering dialogue among nations.
The decision was announced in Moscow on July 24 by the jury of the Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize.
According to the jury, the award recognises the top Vietnamese leader’s outstanding efforts to consolidate peace, enhance cooperation among nations and promote mutual understanding and dialogue in international relations.
The recognition also reflects growing international appreciation for Vietnam's commitment to peace, sustainable development and multilateral cooperation, as well as its increasingly active role in addressing regional and global issues.
Named after renowned Russian novelist Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, author of War and Peace and Anna Karenina, the Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize is awarded annually to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to peace, humanitarian values and cooperation among nations.
The prize, established in June 2022 by the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Peace Foundation, and the Russian Military Historical Society, honours achievements that advance dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, reflecting the humanistic ideals associated with Tolstoy's legacy.
According to the jury's announcement, the Vietnamese leader was selected for his role in promoting international cooperation and supporting efforts aimed at strengthening peace and understanding among peoples.
The award comes as Vietnam continues to expand its relations with partners around the world while pursuing an independent, self-reliant foreign policy characterised by multilateralisation, diversification and proactive international integration.
In recent years, Vietnam has increasingly positioned itself as an active and responsible member of the international community through stronger participation in multilateral institutions, regional cooperation mechanisms and global initiatives promoting peace, sustainable development and economic cooperation.
