VOV.VN - Cambodia's Pursat province on June 10 inaugurated the Vietnam–Cambodia Friendship Monument, marking another friendship monument built across the Kingdom to commemorate the long-standing solidarity and historical bonds between the peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia.
The inauguration ceremony was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, and Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party and President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland.
The event was attended by officials from both countries, representatives of the armed forces, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, as well as local residents, students and youth representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Gau described the monument as not only a cultural and historical landmark but also a symbol of the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia.
The monument stands as a reminder to current and future generations of the sacrifices made by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who stood side by side with the Cambodian armed forces and people in the struggle against the genocidal regime, contributing to peace, independence and freedom for both nations, he said.
According to the Vietnamese defence official, the monument will continue to serve as an important educational site, helping younger generations in both countries better understand their shared history and appreciate the values of peace, independence and friendship.
For her part, Men Sam An expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and the support provided by the Party, State, military and people of Vietnam during Cambodia’s struggle to overthrow the genocidal regime.
She emphasised that the Vietnam–Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pursat stands as a tribute to those who gave their lives for the independence and freedom of both nations.
The Cambodian leader added that the monument also reflects the determination of both sides to further strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation between their peoples and armed forces.
Following the inauguration, delegates took part in ribbon-cutting, incense-offering and flower-laying ceremonies at the monument, reaffirming their commitment to preserving and promoting the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia for peace, stability and development in both countries.
The Vietnam–Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pursat is part of a broader network of friendship monuments established across Cambodia, serving as enduring symbols of the historical solidarity, mutual support and close ties between the two neighbouring countries.
